We believe that a positive, nurturing, and supportive home–school relationship is essential for children to reach their full potential with confidence. From the moment a child enrols at St Mary’s, we are committed to fostering this partnership, recognising that each child’s education is a shared responsibility between staff, parents, and students.

At St Mary’s, we pride ourselves on our welcoming and hospitable atmosphere and our strong commitment to working in partnership with families. We have a range of practices in place to support clear and consistent communication between home and school, ensuring families feel informed, connected, and actively involved in their child’s learning journey.

Parents & Friends

Our Parents & Friends group plays an important role in building community and supporting the school. This group provides opportunities for families to be actively involved in social and fundraising events, while also contributing ideas and supporting school improvement. Funds raised by Parents & Friends enhance learning and play opportunities for our students. New members are always welcome.

School Advisory Council (SAC)

The SAC provides an opportunity for parents to work alongside school leadership in shaping the future of St Mary’s. The group typically includes parents, the Principal, Deputy Principal and Parish Priest, and focuses on areas such as strategic planning, child safety, school policies, learning programs, transitions, extracurricular opportunities, and strengthening home–school partnerships.

Community Events

At St Mary’s Swan Hill, community is at the heart of school life. From The Colour Run, Grandparents Day, Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day celebrations, Learning Walks, sports days, The Great Race and Carols in the Park, our students and families share many special experiences throughout the year. Through our social justice program, students of all ages also make a positive contribution to the wider community, from visiting local aged care residents to supporting Meals on Wheels and helping at kinder.

Volunteering

We understand that families have varying levels of availability, and we value and appreciate any involvement, big or small. The families of St Mary’s are a vital part of what makes our school such a strong and welcoming community. We see parents as true partners in their child’s education, and there are many ways to be involved—through School Advisory Council (SAC), Parents & Friends, Breakfast Club, excursions, classroom support, or simply by staying informed and connected.
